The KMZ Foundation is a private family foundation created in 2015 by founding trustees and sisters Kathleen Murphy Zimpel, Karen Murphy Baer and Kristin Murphy Coile. Established as a charitable trust in Virginia, the Foundation’s trustees are based in northern Virginia, south Florida and Nashville, Tennessee. The Foundation is primarily focused on providing grants to organizations located in Maryland, Virginia, Washington, D.C., Tennessee and surrounding states. The Foundation is authorized to award grants throughout the United States.
The sisters grew up in northern Virginia and have always shared a love of animals. After the sale of Kathleen Zimpel’s multistate mortgage company in 2015, the family was able to realize their dream of starting a philanthropic organization to help further their love of animals and commitment to serve their local communities. The three sisters bring together valuable experience in the financial, legal and nonprofit sectors and are using these skills to identify worthy causes in their respective communities.
